My Review

I won a $50 gift card to the newest Eat BKK location by Yonge and Steeles. I decided to take a friend with me so we could have a feast. Honestly, $50 covers A LOT of food. If I knew how much food we would have ended up with, I would have 100% invited another friend or two. (Funny enough, my cousin won a $50 gift card as well and I went with her for lunch with two other co-workers; it fed the four of us perfectly). The new restaurant is very spacious and was made to accommodate fans of the original location at Yonge and Sheppard (which is a lot smaller).

I thought the Khao Soi Poutine was unique, with a lot of meat thrown on top of fries. It was a fun appetizer that was great for at least three people since the beef was filling. The Pad Kaprao Crispy Pork I ordered was not the greatest, only because the rice was a bit cold and not as soft. My friend said he quite liked their Pad Thai Chicken. We both ordered Thai Iced Tea and I decided to get the rum-spiked version called the TTT (Tipsy Thai Tea). It was still similar to the original Thai Iced Tea minus the rum. Great if you are a fan of boozy fun drinks, otherwise the regular Thai Iced Tea is just as good. Honestly the amount of food we got was way too much for two people. Eat BKK is super affordable and you can get so much for so many people at little cost.

You should come here for lunch if you are in the area. For only $10.95, you get a substantial plate of food along with spring rolls and soup (this is the same for the Yonge and Sheppard location). It makes for a super hearty lunch and you get the most bang for your buck!

I definitely recommend checking out Eat BKK. I was told that both restaurants have slightly different menus. A couple of items at the Yonge and Sheppard location are not on the Yonge and Steeles menu, and vice versa.

My Order: Pad Gra Prao, $16

I went to Khao San Road some years ago at their old location. The internet raved about how pretty the new location is so I decided to check it out. I went on a weeknight and was a bit disappointed that you weren't allowed to be seated until everyone from your party was there (not sure if this was the case for their previous location as well). I had to wait on the second floor in the meantime. By the time I could be seated, all of the individual tables were filled up and I was seated at one of the communal tables on the first floor.

If you're seated at a communal table, there are hooks under the table for you to hang your bag and coat (though they are quite low if you have a longer jacket). The chairs for the communal tables are also high without a back rest, so there might be difficulty finding a place to hang your jacket during the winter time. They have more seating on the second floor (that can be booked out for events), which also has a bar.

I had the Pad Gra Prao and it came out as expected, vegetables with fried pork over a fried egg and rice. Prices are $15.50 or $16 for their main dishes. Khao San Road is comparable in terms of menu and cost to Pai, which is just down the road. Overall, a cool and casual restaurant to check out and catch up with friends. Si Lom is a Thai restaurant in the Village named after the popular district and road in Bangkok. It has an array of your typical Thai dishes, such as pad thai and curry. However, Si Lom is known for their fun cocktail buckets. These drinks are meant for sharing but can easily be consumed by one person as well. I first ordered the Si Lom Road to share, which was a pretty light and delicious drink. My friend  then decided to order the Jolly Bear & Friends Kamikaze. It honestly tasted quite similar to Si Lom Road, minus the gummy bears. I don't suggest ordering both at the same time because it's like buying the same drink twice.

For my meal, I ordered the Pad Thai Chicken dish and loved it! It's definitely on par with Pai's Pad Thai (a restaurant I always recommend to everyone). The restaurant is overall very nice and is perfect for lunch or dinner with friends and family. I think it might be one of my new favourite Thai restaurants!

I did #FoodieFriday with Toronto Common recently. We were invited to Eathai, which is a quaint restaurant near Coxwell station. The first thing we got to try were their Thai iced teas. The drink has a chai taste to it and is simply delicious. I recommend you try it at least once if you are ever in a Thai restaurant that serves it.

Afterwards, we were given an array of appetizers and main dishes to taste. My favourites were the Spicy Green Curry Chicken and Pad Thai. We weren't able to finish everything so I took the rest back to my boyfriend's place. My boyfriend obsessed over the Mango Salad. If you are a fruit person, give this dish a try. The Cashew Nut Sauce Chicken ended up being quite popular with him and his family.

Eathai has a variety of dishes that would appeal to everyone's palate (I know because my boyfriend is so picky with his food!). If you are ever in East York or live nearby, I say you should drop by and try this homely restaurant out.

If you are interested in a tasting event with Toronto Common x Eathai, let us know! If there are enough people interested, we might be able to make it happen!

The Thai Orchid is a family-styled restaurant across from the Westfield Carindale mall. Living up to it's name, this all purple restaurant serves traditional Thai dishes. All the dishes are fine, nothing that stands out to me till this day. It's overall a nice restaurant to bring your family to.

Review

I attended a Zomato Meetup where I caught up with fellow food bloggers and ate delicious Northern Thai cuisine! Pai is one of the many Thai restaurants owned by Chef Nuit and her husband, Jeff. You might not know them, but you probably know their most popular restaurant, Khao San Road!

Chef Nuit

I had the pleasure of trying a variety of dishes during this event that are also on the regular menu. The Som Tum Tad (Papaya Salad) was the starting appetizer. I was confused by the set up of the dish, because it looked like it was a one person portion. Regardless, everyone tried to take equally small portions for themselves. It was my least favourite dish out of everything we've tried.

The first main dish was the Gaeng Kiaw Wan (Green Curry) served with rice. I enjoyed this curry quite a bit. To make it more fun, it was served in a coconut! Shortly thereafter, our second main dish was Chef Nuit Chicken Pad Thai Platter. The pad thai was quite delicious too. The third dish was a surprise dish. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a hold of the plate's name. Judging by the ingredients from their online menu, I guessed it was the Plah Nua (Beef Salad). For this dish, you have sticky rice and cooked beef. You take the rice and scrunch it up into a ball with your hand. Then, you stick the beef onto the rice and eat it together using your hands. It was a new experience for me. I wasn't crazy about this plate compared to the pad thai and curry. It was cool to try regardless.

Lastly, we had dessert. It was mango sticky rice and I enjoyed it more than I expected! The sweetness of the mango along with the sticky rice made a great combo. Despite having a couple of my own drinks, I got to sample a fellow foodie's cocktail. I HIGHLY recommend you order the Tea Ross (not pictured). It's a delicious spiked Thai iced tea. I would go back to Pai for this drink and I never order cocktails or alcohol at a restaurant (only at pubs).

Overall, I loved my experience at Pai. I would definitely recommend it if you have tried Khao San Road or want to eat some Thai food.

Thank you Zomato for this awesome #ZomatoMeetUP!
